He can be considered to be a forerunner in the field of Hindustani classical music in Chennai. His contribution to the advancement of Hindustani classical music and Spreading awareness of the tradition of same in southern part of India has had an indelible impact. This is visible from the increased number of students and audience attracted to Hindustani classical and light music in Chennai. This contribution is all the more laudable due to the fact that Tamil Nadu is that state of India where there was utmost resistance to Hindi language.

He undertook this as a challenge and started teaching students who could not read, write or understand Hindi. This shows that his music transcends linguistic and geographical barriers. In the interest of Hindustani music, he has voluntarily put in a lot of effort and time to demonstrate how all film and light music is derived out of the classical platform. He has ably brought forth the nature and melody of a particular raga and then a Hindi film song composed on the same raga was sung by other artists. In these times of pop, rock and disco music, this was a novel idea for generating awareness amongst the society, for the benefit of those who are uninitiated to the land of pure classical music. His talent has had an inspirational effect on almost everyone who has listened to him and is multiplied through the people he meets to create an impact that goes far beyond his direct individual contribution.

He has been teaching Hindustani Classical music for the past 4 years in Chennai to more than 250 students. Amongst them 200 students belong to south India who do not know Hindi. Chennai being the cultural stronghold of the south and of Karnatic music, numerous concerts are arranged throughout the year, however concerts for Hindustani Music are almost non existent. At present, Kuldeep Sagar, is working on one new project with a very unique concept. The idea is to sequence Hindustani raga with Karnatic raga which will enable the audience in south India to enjoy Hindustani classical music in their own language.

Kuldeep Sagar has performed widely in India, earning popularity for his classical renditions as well as his Ghazals. He has also performed in Mauritius where he acquired first position in Ghazal singing competition. He has done voice overs for different commercials and hosted the launch function of an album. He has also sung Bhajans for cassettes. He sings for All India Radio and Doodarshan as a “B.High” Grade Artist in Hindustani Classical and Light Music. He has several lecture-demonstrations on Indian Music to his credit, and has conducted music and theatre workshops too.
